Disney 100 Years of Magic- McDonald’s Glass Set

Hooray for the weekend!  Welcome to another exciting edition of Saturdays With Nick.  I bet some of you have (or had) some of these featured collectibles at your house.  Personally, I don’t have a single one and have absolutely no recollection of these being available at McDonald’s.  If I see some in a flea market in the future, at least now I’ll know what they are!  Are these in your kitchen cabinet?  Leave a comment and let us know.

Disney 100 Years of Magic- McDonald’s Glass Set

by Nick

In 2001-2002, Disney celebrated what would have been Walt Disney’s 100th birthday with the 100 Years of Magic Celebration.

McDonald’s released this glassy, er, classy, set of glasses to commemorate this occasion.

Each of the four glasses featured a park icon, with movie and character trivia, and even a quote from Walt!

This first glass features Spaceship Earth.
Park Trivia: EPCOT originally stood for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow
The Walt Disney quote: “Today we are shapers of the world of tomorrow.”

Movie Trivia: Buzz Lightyear said “To Infinity and Beyond” only 2 times in “Toy Story”

Character trivia: Belle is the French word for beauty.

The inside bottom of the glass.

This glass displays Cinderella Castle.
Park trivia: Tinker Bell starts the fireworks nightly at the Magic Kingdom.
The Walt Disney quote: “Fantasy…lies beyond the reach of time.”

Pinocchio had to be “brave, truthful and unselfish” to become a real boy.

Dumbo’s real name was actually “Jumbo Jr.”.

Bambi was taught that “twitterpated” meant falling in love.

Park Trivia for this next glass: There are 325 animal carvings on The Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
The Walt Disney quote: “…nature herself writes the most interesting stories”

Goofy-first known as “Dippy Dawg”-stars in “Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle” Parade.

“Simba” is the Swahili word for “lion”.

The outside bottom of the glass.

Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat at the Disney Studios is 122 ft. tall.

“Kiss Me” were the only words ever spoken by Pluto.
Donald’s middle name is “Fauntleroy.”

“…it was all started by a mouse.” Walt Disney

Happy New Year, and here’s to the next 100 years of Disney Magic!

Walt Disney Rand McNally Globe

Some things never change – It may be a new year, but I still have the same old envy over yet another item in Nick and Barbie’s Disneyana collection!  Check out this adorable globe and see what I mean…

Walt Disney Rand McNally Globe

By Nick

As a collector, I have a wide range of tastes. As you may know, I collect Disney. I also have collected comic books, Star Wars, and Muppets (before they were Disney). In addition, I have a sizable globe and map collection, reflecting my love of travel. So, put 2 things I love to collect together, and you have a sure fire winner, such as Star Wars and Disney, or Star Wars and Muppets

Another winner is this metal Disney globe. It’s a smaller globe, measuring 10″ from the base.

Brought to us by Walt Disney and Rand McNally.

I’ve dated this globe to the late 1950s. As globes are not dated, you can figure out roughly when they were manufactured by geopolitical names and boundaries. Now, I’m no scholar, as anyone I know will tell you, but this globe also has a couple of clues that helped me reach that conclusion.
First, I know it’s from after 1955 by this wonderful little graphic of Mickey inviting us to “Visit Disneyland and see All your Disney friends like ME.”

Then, the globe also shows Goofy riding a camel across French West Africa, which Wikipedia tells me was a federation that existed from 1895 until 1960. So, It had to be made somewhere between 1955 and 1960.
Best guess.

Mickey points the way, and lets us know “There’s something to learn Wherever you turn.”

Indeed, there are little bits of trivia all around this globe.

The base has some interesting characters, including Willie the Whale from the short cartoon “The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met” from the 1946 “package film” ” Make Mine Music” from 1946.

I thought I’d share a picture of part of my globe collection. There are several more, scattered around the house.

“Sewing For Cinderelly” Disney Ornament

It’s finally Saturday!  Can you believe it’s almost Christmas?  I don’t know about your house, but there’s a lot of last minute holiday prep going on at ours!  Our weather has been unseasonably warm lately & made it seem as if Christmas was way in the future – finally a cold snap just in time!  If you’ve visitied here before you may have noticed I have a thing for Disney Christmas decorations.  Ornaments are my favorite Disney souvenirs and my 9-foot tree displays more than 20 years-worth of collecting them (and making a few of my own).  I love seeing Nick post about his Disney ornaments at Disney Musings Blog and Facebook page – His collection is completely different than mine!  Today’s little treasure is just precious and if I ever come across one of these for sale, I would love to add it to my own tree.

I bought this “Limited Quantity” ornament titled “Sewing For Cinderelly” in July, 2013 during the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Premiere Weekend.

Gus and Jaq are maybe my favorite part of Cinderella.

Jaq.

I see more than a bit of myself in Gus Gus!

They have helped create a masterpiece for Cinderella.

Do you have special Disney ornaments on your Christmas tree?  We’d love to see pictures over on our Facebook page!

Flea Market Treasure: Disney Christmas Stocking

Hooray for the weekend!  So much Christmas-y stuff to do, so little time left!!!  As we all know by now, Nick’s Disney collection includes something(s) for every season!  I particularly love this slightly odd but adorably seasonal find.  A little research on the interwebs leads me to believe this was originally a sew-it-yourself project, once upon a time.  Merry Christmas!  (Just out of curiosity, I searched online and found this piece for sale on etsy – $42!!! – Nick scored a big-time bargain!)

Flea Market Treasure: Disney Christmas Stocking

By Nick

We bought this vintage Disney Christmas stocking at our local flea market, Columbus, for $7.

It measures about 9 1/2 x 15 inches and is in really great shape considering it is likely from the 1960s.

I’m pretty confident saying it’s from the mid 60’s based on the fact that one side features Merlin from The Sword in the Stone, which was released on Christmas day in 1963. The next animated feature wasn’t released until The Jungle Book in 1967!

There is a lot happening on this stocking! In fact, there is something I didn’t notice until taking photos. Is this Peter Pan below? It’s pretty vague.

Donald is painting candy canes.

I’m not exactly sure what Dwarf this is, but I’m thinking Happy as he has a big smile on his face as he paints a train.

Clearly this is Dopey, though I am not sure of who put him in charge of the lights.

Is this Huey, Dewey, or Louie? On Duck Tales, Dewey wears blue, so we’ll go with that.

This is Thumper?

This is certainly Bambi being decorated by Mickey and Alice.

They look like they are all well on their way to finishing decorating for Christmas. How about you?
